MICHAŁOWO
THE CITIZEN-FORUM OF MICHAŁOWO

Michalowo is a little village with 3000 inhabitants around and is located 36 km from Bialystok in the North-East of Poland.
Michalowo is one of the youngest villages in the area of the community. It was founded in 1832 by Seweryn Michałowski - as a settlement for factory workers of textile industry.
Until the Second World War here, there have been living German, Polish, Jewish and Belorussian people together and they have given a multinational image to the village.
In the area of the community of Michalowo are a lot of monuments:
- the ruin of the palace and park in Hieronimowo
- remains of the farm in Stanek
- place of cultural interest in Świnobród with the house of Hasbach-family from 1903
- the chapel of Nowa Wola, which was built in 1867
- the church of Jalowka, which was built in 1862
- the Russian-Orthodox church of St. Nicholas from 1907
- a lot of wooden houses from the 19th century
Because of the
rich monumental heritage and the wonderful wildlife Michalowo more and more develops into a region of agro-tourism.
